A Message from Seminarian Dan Waruszewski
Beloved Members of the Latin Mass,
I would like to thank you for journeying with me in my seminary formation for the first year and a half my first time in the seminary and for the last four and a half years since I have returned. I have learned much from your devotion, your values, your support and your friendship, lessons that I will take with me for the rest of my life. I have enjoyed Christmas parties, acting and watching plays and especially assisting and sitting in choir at the altar. You and the Latin Masses have given me an appreciation for the traditions of our faith and of the value of striving for virtue in a secular world. However, it has become clear to me through prayer, through spiritual direction and by seeking wise council, that it is time for me to return to the parish where I have grown up, Saint Teresa of Avila, Perrysville. In addition to being more like the parishes I will be serving in one day, having a school and many ministry opportunities, it is also where I first came to serve and love the Lord, and I feel the call to return. Know that it is not easy to leave but the Lord is calling me away. You will all remain in my heart and I hope to celebrate my ordination with you all God-willing. May God bless you as you celebrate the Easter Season!

Pax tecum
Seminarian Dan Waruszewski

FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR MODERATOR
From time to time I have written to you regarding matters of importance about our parishes. This letter is to inform you of two important projects that will have an impact on Saint Boniface Church. The first is the impending roof repairs and the second is the repaving of East Street and the installation of bike lanes. The parish has worked very diligently on both of these projects and I want to report to you the results of the discussions and decisions that have been made.

Regarding the church roof, the parish has been working for over a year with a consulting group to determine a permanent fix for our leaking roof. Over the years we have done work on the roof but it continues to have problems in various areas of the church. The conclusion of the study was that several areas of the roof need remediation. The present roof is the original and has served the parish well since 1925. The roof repairs will be done in four phases. The first phase will begin November 2, 2015 and last approximately eight weeks. This repair will focus on the right side of the church (looking from the street) since it is the area of greatest concern. The cost of this project is $110,000 with 50% being paid by insurance and the remained paid from of our portion of The Church Alive campaign. Your payment of pledges in a timely fashion and any additional contributions are deeply appreciated. Phase two and three will be completed in the spring. This involves the left side of the church and the dome area. The final phase is the rear of the church. This project has not yet been scheduled. Be aware of the scaffolding that will be erected.

Regarding East Street, the City of Pittsburgh is repaving the road which has not been done since the completion of I-279. This project began last week and will continue for approximately three weeks. The repaving will reduce the traffic to two lanes (one in each direction) and the installation of protected bike lanes (poles) on both sides of East Street. In lengthy discussions with the City, it has been agreed that the City will provide a parking lane from about the beginning of Royal Street to beyond the entrances of the parish parking lot. This lane will not be impeded by protected bike poles and for the use of the parishioners for Mass on the weekends and special events. Please be aware of the changes to East Street over these next couple of weeks and drive safely.

Manifesting the Kingdom Award
The Diocese of Pittsburgh rejoices in so many good people who in their own way work to manifest the new life we have received in baptism. The Manifesting the Kingdom Award is given by the diocesan bishop for exceptional service to the Church.

Saint John XXIII Parish is pleased to announce that Geraldine Redic has been chosen along with those from other parishes to receive this special award. She will be the first recipient of our newly-established parish. Gerry serves as a vital part of the Parish Catechetical Ministry as a catechist, imparting the knowledge of the faith to the young people of our parish. As a member of the Parish Pastoral Council, she offers her insight to help the parish consider the decisions necessary for its well-being and growth. Gerry has served as the Chairperson for Our Campaign for the Church Alive! and Guardians of the Past-Stewards of the Future which successfully raised over $743,000 in pledges. This campaign has already been seen bearing fruit with much needed capital improvements for the on-going mission of our parish. Gerry is also very active in many behind the scenes activities.

The award will be presented by Bishop Zubik at a diocesan Mass on Sunday, June 7, 2015 beginning at 2:30 PM at St. Paul Cathedral, Oakland. We congratulate Gerry on this honor and wish her well in her continued service to the Church.

Best Wishes to Our Graduates

31 Club
We are exploring starting a new club in our parish called the 31 Club. This club is special. There are no meetings. There are no dues. No one has to drive anywhere. The purpose of the club is to pray for an increase in priestly vocations in our Diocese.

We need good young men to answer the call to priesthood within our Diocese. We have an aging priest population and we do not have enough young priests to take their places. Did you know that young men who enter our Diocesan seminary are ordained here and stay here in the Pittsburgh Diocese for the rest of their lives? That is why we need to pray for an increase in priestly vocations within our own Diocese.

The 31 Club is a club whose members each choose one specific day of the month to say the rosary. Someone may choose the 4th of each month. Another may choose the 22nd. A third may perhaps choose the 17th. You say that rosary by yourself, on your own time in your own home on the day you chose. The goal is to have at least one person in our parish every day saying the rosary for an increase in vocations to the priesthood in our diocese. It is called the 31 Club because 31 is the most number of days in any given month.

Will you please consider making this solemn commitment to pray the rosary one time each month? We need your prayers.

For further information or to sign up, please contact Rose Waruszewski at rose_waruszewski@reagan.com

40 Days for Life
Our Lenten 40 Days for Life began on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Baby Bottle Campaign
Our parishes have chosen to make this Lent more meaningful by participating in a Baby Bottle Campaign to benefit six pregnancy care centers called Women’s Choice Network to assist women to bring their pre-born children to full term and birth. The centers take no government funding, relying on churches, organizations, and individuals for support. They do not provide contraception or refer for abortion. Baby bottles, to be filled with change, bills, or a check, will be distributed after Masses next Sunday and must be returned on March 14, 2015. To learn more, go to www.mypregnancycenter.org or call Rose Waruszewski at 412-766-1376.

Women’s Study Group
Women of the parish are invited to join a new Catholic women’s study group beginning this March. This group will be using ENDOW’s study guide to explore more deeply Pope Benedict Emeritus’ first encyclical, Deus Caritas Est. Please take advantage of this great opportunity to strengthen your understanding of the faith while building deep Catholic friendships among those in our parish. Gatherings will be held the second Saturday of each month beginning March 13, 2015 between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM in the Archives Room of Saint Boniface. If interested or for more information, please call or text Anne Gruber at 412-973-4870.
