FOOD PANTRY SENDS THANKS

Thank you for your donations of food and financial support! Your generosity makes it possible to continue our ministry and serve our parishioners and neighbors. With the holidays approaching we are asking for canned cranberry sauce, boxed stuffing or instant potatoes. We will continue to collect reusable tote bags as well as canned tuna, vegetables and peanut butter. Any donation of any sort is welcomed. Donations can be placed in the large baskets located in the vestibules of each church or taken to the Administrative Center.

LATIN MASS CHRISTMAS SEASON GATHERING
It is not too early to plan for our Christmas Gathering, which, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 11, 2015 in Norbert Hall. In order for this to occur, we need at least 4 people to be in charge of planning this wonderful event. Basically we need a general overseer or administrator, a contact person to plan the meal with the caterer, a set up and clean up coordinator, a decorator and a social coordinator. Please contact Fr. Dolan <frjwdolan@comcast.net> so that we can meet in the first week of December.

From the Desks of Father DiNardo and Father Dolan
Every year on the fourth Thursday of November we celebrate the national day of Thanksgiving. Historians tell us that the early tradition of Thanksgiving Day can be traced to the 1621 celebration at Plymouth (in present day Massachusetts) where Pilgrims, Puritans and Native Americans gave thanks for the harvest. The first nation-wide thanksgiving celebration in America was marked on November 26, 1789 by President George Washington who proclaimed it “as a day of public thanksgiving to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God.”

We have a great deal to be thankful for during this year which we should celebrate as we give thanks to God for his many blessings. On this Thanksgiving Day we should give thanks to the Lord for all that we have and are given in this life.

We give thanks for our families and friends who care for and love us. For these gifts we give thanks to the Lord.

We give thanks for those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, that the Lord give them an eternal banquet. For this gift we give thanks to the Lord.

We thank all those who have participated in our Capital Campaign. The pledges have totaled $635,000 and we have already begun the repairs in Saint Ambrose Church and hope to have new carpet by Christmas. We have ordered the new organ for Saint Boniface Church and we are promised its installation by Christmas. For these gifts, we give thanks to the Lord.

We give thanks all those who worked so hard for our 2014 Festival and Corvette Raffle. Our net profit was $101,794. The parish is grateful for this contribution that provides for the mission of the parish. For this gift, we give thanks for the Lord.

We give thanks for the establishment of Saint John XXIII quasi-parish by Bishop Zubik for the continuation of the Mass in the Extraordinary Form in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. For this gift we give thanks to the Lord.

We give thanks to all of our parishioners and members of the Latin Mass Community for the fidelity and commitment to our communities. For these, we give thanks to the Lord.

We give thanks for the many people who support the ministry of Holy Wisdom Parish and the Latin Mass Community to help us grow in age, wisdom and grace. For this gift, we give thanks to the Lord.

Yes! Thanksgiving is a time of giving thanks. Let us not forget to give thanks for these and all our gifts.

REBORN IN BAPTISM
Congratulations and best wishes to Patrick Joseph Oxenreiter, child of Thomas Raymond Oxenreiter and Emily Jean White Oxentreiter, who will be baptized this Sunday into the community of faith. May he continue to grow in wisdom, age, and grace.

STARTING LATIN MASS COMMUNITY CHILDREN’S CHOIR
We are pleased to announce the formation of a Children’s Choir for our youth ages 8 through high school. It is a wonderful opportunity for the youth to glorify God and raise the minds and hearts of the faithful to Him. Those who become members will begin by learning Latin hymns and then ultimately singing the Latin Mass. Mr. Sean Nypaver, a member of our Latin Mass Community, will direct the choir. He has extensive experience in choral music and plays the piano as well. Those families who are interested are invited to bring their children to a rehearsal on Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Archives Room at St. Boniface, where they will learn more details about the choir. Rehearsals will be on Saturdays. The first goal is for the choir to sing a Latin hymn during the Mass on January 4, 2015, when Bishop Zubik will visit and form our Community as a personal quasi parish and install Fr. Dolan as our pastor and Fr. DiNardo as the pastor-moderator of the team ministry. Please email both Sean Nypaver <snypaver@gmail.com> and Fr. Dolan <frjwdolan@comcast.net> to let them know of your interest.

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING
Today is the feast of Christ the King for the Holy Wisdom Latin Mass Community. Following the Mass there will be a procession with the Blessed Sacrament in the Church, and after the procession, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the altar until 4:00 PM. At this time we will have benediction and reposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The interval of time will lend itself to quiet adoration for those of us who can offer a half  hour with Our Lord. There will soon be a sign up sheet which will have half hour increments on it, so that our Lord will not be alone.

ALL SAINTS DAY AND ALL SOULS DAY
Friday, November 1, 2013 is All Saints Day, a holyday of obligation. We will celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass two times that day at Saint Boniface Church: 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM. We hope this affords our members the opportunity to come to Mass when it’s light or after work when it’s darker. Saturday, November 2, 2013 is First Saturday and it is also All Souls Day. Though not a holyday of obligation, so many of our faithful Catholics come to Mass to pray for the Poor Souls and their own deceased loved ones. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM. A plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls, is granted to those who visit any parish or public oratory and there recite one Our Father and one Credo on this day.

REBORN IN BAPTISM
Congratulations and best wishes to Azelie Marie Kotwica, child of Randal Hete and Piper Hueffed Kotwica, who was baptized this weekend into the community of faith. May she continue to grow in wisdom, age, and grace.

TURN BACK THE HANDS OF TIME
Just a reminder to remember to turn your clocks back one hour in the early hours next Sunday morning for Daylight Savings Time. While you change your clocks, it might also be a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors as well. Change your clocks, change your batteries.

TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS TIME CHANGE
The 7:00 PM evening Latin Mass this Tuesday, October 29, 2013 will be celebrated in the morning at 9:00 AM, due to the multi-parish celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation that evening by Bishop William Winter. We appreciate your understanding.

BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN ENDS
Our parish has chosen to make this Lent more meaningful by participating in a Baby Bottle Campaign to benefit six pregnancy care centers called Women’s Choice Network to assist women to bring their pre-born children to full term and birth. Bishop Zubik recently blessed their new sonogram machine.  The centers take no government funding, relying on churches, organizations, and individuals for support. They do not provide contraception or refer for abortion. Baby bottles, to be filled with change, bills, or a check, must be returned on March 17, 2013. To learn more, go to www.mypregnancycenter.org or call Rose Waruszewski at 412-766-1376.

THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU
Lent is a season for reconciliation. On Ash Wednesday, as we received our ashes, we were called to “repent and believe in the Gospel.” The Gospel or Good News we are called to believe is that Jesus came to reconcile us to the Father.
Holy Wisdom Parish will join with other parishes through the Diocese of Pittsburgh and throughout the United States in having their doors open and their lights on-Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Saint Boniface Church-to welcome those seeking the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Whether it is someone who has been away from the Church for a while or a Catholic who attends Mass regularly but has not gone to confession in some time, we invite them to take advantage of this special night of grace.

This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday which begins the holy season of Lent. The blessed ashes imposed on our foreheads remind us of our mortality and dependence on the Paschal Mystery.

ASH WEDNESDAY LATIN MASSES will be celebrated at 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM in Saint Boniface. Imposition of ashes will take place before Mass.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS will be celebrated every Friday of Lent at 6:30 PM followed by Latin Mass at 7:00 PM. There will be no 9:00 AM Mass on the Fridays of Lent.

LENTEN REGULATIONS
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. The obligation of abstinence (refraining from eating meat) begins at age 14. The law of fast (limiting oneself to one full meal and two lighter meals) obliges all between the ages of 18-59. No one should consider this obligation lightly. Those individuals who have a medical condition in which fasting may be considered harmful are not obliged to fast but should perform some other act of penance or charity.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed every first Sunday of the month after the 11:00 AM Mass at St. Boniface Church until 4:00 PM when there will be prayers and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament in response to the Year of Faith. Please sign up on the adoration sheet in the vestibule so that there will be adorers at that time.

BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN
Our parish has chosen to make this Lent more meaningful by participating in a Baby Bottle Campaign to benefit six pregnancy  care centers called Women’s Choice Network to assist women to bring their pre-born children to full term and birth. Bishop Zubik recently blessed their new sonogram machine.  The centers take no government funding, relying on churches, organizations, and individuals for support. They do not provide contraception or refer for abortion. Baby bottles, to be filled with change, bills, or a check, will be distributed after Masses on  February 16-17, 2013 and must be returned on March 17, 2013. To learn more, go to www.mypregnancycenter.org or call Rose Waruszewski at 412-766-1376.
